Safety tips
A vouch is a great start, but it's not a guarantee. These habits keep you safe.
Before the job
- Verify. Read every vouch and experience. Check the recommenders' social media. Call the artisan and ask about similar jobs.
- Don't visit anybody in their house. Meet at your property, their shop or workshop, or a public place.
- Agree the price, what's included, and the timeline before work starts. Write it down, even in a WhatsApp chat.
Money
- Don't pay everything upfront. Pay for materials against receipts, and the balance when the job is done.
- Prefer transfers to an account in the artisan's own name, so there's a record.
- Skilarts will never ask you to pay us for a job or to send money to "unlock" an artisan.
During the job
- If possible, don't be home alone with someone you've never met. Let a neighbour or family member know.
- Keep valuables out of sight and out of the work area.
- Take photos before and after the work.
If something goes wrong
- If you're in danger or a crime happened, call the police on 112 and get a report number.
- Then report it on the artisan's Skilarts profile with any evidence. Moderators will investigate.
- Don't take the law into your own hands, and don't post accusations you can't back up.
