Terms of use
Last updated 22 October 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Skilarts (operated by its founder, Lagos, Nigeria) ("Skilarts", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using the site you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Skilarts.
1. What Skilarts is, and isn't
Skilarts is a community platform where members recommend ("vouch for") skilled artisans they have personally used, and share their experiences. We are an intermediary only. We do not employ, supervise, endorse, license or insure any artisan. We are not a party to any agreement, payment or job between you and an artisan, and we do not guarantee the quality, safety, legality or timeliness of any work.
A "Verified" label means only that our moderators completed the checks described in our Community Guidelines at the time. It is not a guarantee, certification or background check. You are responsible for your own checks before you hire anyone.
2. Eligibility and accounts
- You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding contract under Nigerian law.
- Give accurate information and keep your password secret. You're responsible for activity on your account.
- One person, one account. Don't impersonate anyone.
3. Your content
You are solely responsible for what you post: vouches, experiences, photos, notes, reports and requests. You confirm that it is true, based on your own first-hand experience, and that you have the right to post it, including the consent of any artisan you list and of anyone identifiable in your photos.
You must not post content that:
- is false, misleading or defamatory, or accuses someone of a crime you cannot back up;
- is paid for, incentivised, or written about yourself or your business;
- contains home addresses, ID documents, bank details or other people's private information;
- harasses, threatens, or incites violence or "jungle justice", or is hateful on grounds of ethnicity, religion, gender or disability;
- breaks any Nigerian law, including the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act and the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
You give Skilarts a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, display, and moderate your content on the platform and in promoting it. You keep ownership of your content.
4. Moderation, removal and bans
We may review, edit for privacy, hide or remove any content, and suspend or ban any account or artisan, at our discretion, including where we receive a credible report. Placement on our banned list reflects only the platform's decision after its own review. It is not a finding of criminal liability. We cooperate with lawful requests from Nigerian law enforcement and regulators.
5. Reports and takedown requests
If content is unlawful, false, or about you without consent, use the takedown form or email hello@skilarts.ng. We aim to review notices within 48 hours, and faster where the law requires.
6. Sponsored content
Some placements are paid advertisements. They are always labelled "Sponsored" and are separate from member vouches. We vet advertisers but don't endorse their products. Any dealing with an advertiser is between you and them.
7. Disclaimers
Skilarts is provided "as is". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we make no warranties about the accuracy of member content or the conduct of any artisan or member. Always verify information before you trust it.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by Nigerian law, Skilarts and its founder, admins and moderators are not liable for any loss, damage, injury, theft or dispute arising from any job, transaction or interaction between members and artisans, or from content posted by members. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2018.
9. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify Skilarts against claims, losses and costs arising from your content, your breach of these terms, or your dealings with any artisan or member.
10. Changes
We may update these terms. We'll post the new version here and, for major changes, tell members by email or on the site.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Disputes will first be attempted through good-faith discussion, and otherwise belong to the courts of Lagos State.
